Some of you might remember my sister Saralyn who worked at LATC down in the basement on the phones. Well, she's married now with a 13 year old daughter who plays guitar and is a black belt and a 14 year old son who for the last 4 seasons has danced with the San Jose Ballet's production of The Nutcracker and has just recieved a half scholorship to the Joffrey Ballet's summer program. He was also accepted to ABT in San Diego with a full scholorship as well as several other schools. He's decided to go to NYC for the summer and will be dancing with the company this summer. If you're in the neighborhood this summer you might check him out.

I'm just back from Ecuador where we purchased "in plan" an apartment in the city of Cuenca. Cuenca is a small city of about 400,000 in the southern highlands about 8,000 feet above sea level. The weather is perfect, 55 to 80 year round. The air is clear, the water pure, and the people friendly. When the apartment is finished in December 2007 you will all have a place to stop on your way through South America. In the meantime I'm finally coming down from the high of the Reunion. It was a spectacular event, the best of the best. I want to personally thank the Planning Committee and all the Volunteers and folks who contributed and all of you who attended. It made me very proud to know that I had been a part of the LAAT/LATC and of the event. We look forward to seeing all of you and more for the 35th/25th in 2010. In the meantime, have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a roisterous and safe holiday season. Thanks again for everything you have all meant to my life. -- Bush

I didn't know who to contact about photos for this website, so I put them on my website on one of my pages. I dug the photos up after remembering that I took a few pictures back then. If you are interested in viewing the photos you may do so on my website, www.myworldspecialties.com.
I am sorry that you have the dredge through my site, it's painless, really. I've remembered some of the names of the people I "shot," sorry about forgetting the others. Of course it will come to me after I post this. Anywhoo...(go to the "I CAN WRITE" page on my site where you will find a place for LATC EYES ONLY.
All the best to everyone, Lorrie D. Sargent

Dear All,
Many many thanks for joining the party and making it "an evening to remember". It was a night to reconnect and rekindle old fond memories.
First, I’d like to thank my fellow planning committee members and volunteers who worked very very hard to make it a great “evening to remember”.
Second, a big thanks to all of you who generously reached out to their wallets to make it an “evening to remember”. I do plan to send out a personal note of thanks to everyone who donated for the party.
Third, we will continue with this website to stay connected and provide update. Make this your favorite link.
Last but not the least; please check your Social Security Earnings statement and you might see that it has missing earnings for the year 1985 and 1987. In my investigation, I found out that the Office of Social Security administration has lost the records for those two years. The simple fix is to call 1-800-772-1213 and let them know that your earnings statement is incorrect. If possible, have your W-2 or tax return for those years handy. You could also send a letter with the appropriate record to fix the earnings statement. Send me an email at skbhatter@hotmail.com, if you have any further questions.
See you all again in 2010….

I miss you all so much already. It was way too short. Next time we should take a weekend cruise and bring the children and/or grandchildren. it's not like we've never been kooped up together in a greenroom, shop or stage for 36 hours before.

Well, we had a WONDERFUL time. It was almost like picking right up where we left 15 years ago, wasn't it?
We are so glad we came from Kansas? No. Michigan? No. Minneapolis? No. Milwaukee, Wisconsin? YES! (just 90 minutes north of Chicago, for the geographically confused, by the way).
Waiting on those pictures though, because I have, as David Mac said to me, "Is that actually a FILM camera!?" and I've sent my own photos away to be developed.

I feel that I dreamt I was in LA and at LATC dancing with my best friends and sharing stories and looking at family pictures and realizing how much LATC meant to me. We are all part of this wonderful extended family regardless of where we call home today - LATC will always occupy a special place in my heart because of all of you guys....what a wonderful event - Thank you all and I'm looking forward to the next one!

Thanks to all those who worked so hard
for letting us play in our old backyard.
The show was great, the food was fine,
I stayed up late and drank some wine.
Now I'm going to start to weep...
this poem gives even me the creeps.
You're all my family and I love you.

On behalf of myself and others on the planning committee I would like to thank everyone who helped make last nights party a success. Those of you that spent weeks and months planning, those who emailed and researched, creating lists, donated money and those that cleaned and set up, who stayed until 3:30 to laugh and strike.
The true success of a party is measured by how much fun the guests had, thank you for showing up and sharing, laughing drinking and crying with us.

CRIS FRANCO here with a true LATC story: JOSE LUIS VALENZUELA put together a big, splashy, star-studded benefit and for some reason Evelina asked me to do some comedy.
While running my stand-up set over and over again in my head, I got lost in the LATC's backstage labyrinth. My time was approaching … but, I couldn’t locate the stage entrance. I scurried around for about 5 minutes feeling like a lab mouse who can’t locate the cheese
Panicked, I burst into an empty rehearsal room where I encounter a diminutive man dressed in overalls (I thought he was the janitor) and shouted, “How the hell do I get to the stage?!” Without missing a beat the man took me by the hand, quickly maneuvered me through the maze and escorted me to the stage just as I was being introduced. It wasn’t until I was half-way on-stage that it dawned on me that I’d just encountered MARTIN SHEEN. Thanks to LATC and JOSE LUIS VALENZUELA and EVELINA FERNANDEZ for introducing me to my idol.

Hello All,
I wanted to give you all a quick update on the party funds. We have raised more than $9,000. Many of you have generously contributed to cover the cost of the party. Some unable to attend the party yet able to help, some will attend the party and plan to contribute on the day of the party and some will attend but unable to help. Whatever the case may be, here is my challenge. I am working with an unknown headcount which makes it difficult to prepare a reasonable budget (Sounds familiar). So here are my TWO requests.
First, go to the website and at the MAIN webpage there is a button on the top left corner “RSVP for the event”. Please let us know if you are attending and let everyone know how to use it.
Second, if you have decided to attend the event and plan to give money on the day of the event, please pledge it to me today and I will list your name and count the money in my budget plan. Should you decide to give it now, you could use PayPal or send me a check at the following address. If you are unable to help, please do not feel left out, we want EVERYONE there on the 1st. But please RSVP. If you have or have not contributed and just received a refund check from IRS, you know how to send the money to me. :))))))))))
Thank you to those who have been very generous and thank you in advance to those who will be generous.
Let’s make this a great success.
See you at the Theatre Center at 6:30PM on Saturday, October 1st

I am, however, unable to attend the Anniversary, sorry. I decided to post a tiny picture of myself on my website for L.A.T.C. eyes only, when I was working there as a receptionist in that dreary dungeon. I think I was there from 1986 to 1988. Go to my website, (wwwDOTmyworldspecialtiesDOTcom) to click on the page that says, "I Can Write" and you will see the old photo at the bottom of the page, it shows the tiny space where I answered phones.

Wow, David Franklin? Lee Sweet? Kat Dragon?
Wow, I am going to have to tell Jon Amirkhan. I worked in the box office and as a house manager and the only thing I remember is a certain celeb that was almost arrested during one of the shows...I'd love to come, although depressing to think it's been twenty years. :) I met so many wonderful people during my tenure there. It was from 86-89 (on and off)as many of us who went to the LACC theatre academy hung out there for, well, work (and I use that term loosely) although a few acting gigs did transpire out of my connections there. Perhaps maybe a play will be written about our experiences from the ground floor of one of the most innovative theatres in LA (I only got my car broken into three times.)
Cheers!

I often make it back to L.A. and hope to connect with some of you then. I guess the only thing I'll mention that people have neglected is the sandwich shop about two blocks away. Was the name "Friendly's?" REALLY cheap sandwiches, which was all we could afford, plus they always gave you an orange. The theatre was always filled with those oranges that nobody ever ate. Randy Perry: Sound Cat in the basement.
So here I was thinking, I move back to LA 6 years ago and I can find NO ONE from LATC, other than a chance encounter with Bones mixing Le Miz (props to my man Bones!) and a rather unbelievable stumble across Mark Hoist through friends completely unrelated to my previous incarnation in LA.
So I will be there Oct. 1st to bask in the golden glow of yesterday.
Yup I was there from 88 til the last bounced payroll check of 91.
Got some good pictures from the last party I will bring them along, Hope all the sound cats can make it, Bones, John, Mark, Galen, Sir Jon Gottlieb, ect.

These were great years in my life and I would love to say hello to everyone again. I am so glad to see that Diane White hopes to attend, and that Bill Bushnell with be there! Count me in.

We are definitely coming--airline tickets are booked, place to stay secured and relatives lined up to watch the offspring. No, Brent and Maria, we aren't bringing ours either but we are bringing their pictures (so anyone else, if you are not bringing yours in person, I expect to see pictures too). I've also pulled my old TC photos out of the albums to bring along.
Jill, I'm interested in you feeding me brunch that next Sunday (but who are you calling "old costume folks," huh?)--can Michael come along too?

Hey everybody, Party in the Lobby! That was always the the culmination of the hard work. A lot of people ask what became of the LATC? I have Designed 7 productions at the TC since the "Fall Of The Empire". All I can tell you is that, it is Still Continuing on the Mission that it was created for. Every time I've returned, there was at least one other project in the building. There was Shakespeare in Theater 3, and a Community Dance Group in Theatre 2. Another time, there was an Opera, a New Latino Work and a Homeless Fund Raiser in the building on the same night. It may not be as busy as in "our" time there. It may be older and in need of cash and attention, but it still functions as "A Los Angeles Theatre Center!". I am very proud of our contributions and hard work that made up the original LATC. I would really like to see and talk with all the Casts, Crew and Staff. See you all there!
Peace, Doug Smith ( Yes I still have Long Hair, just less of it! )

Hi, y'all.
How fantastic!
Thank you, Tantris, for taking this on... you rock.
I hope that I'm in town for this, I'd sure dig seeing y'all.

OK, the best laid plans...I'm leaving Monday to join the national tour of Wicked. Look us up at wickedthetour.com and check my itinerary to see if I'm on my way to a city near you! Carol Kane, of Demon Wine fame (OK, maybe she's done other things in her career too)is one of my leads! Love to all, and Jane Lloyd's taking pictures for me at the reunion so smile pretty. Jill

I have a community event that day, so I'm not sure I'll be able to be there, but I'll try. Meanwhile, I'll send a check and good wishes.
I finally finished that pesky Ph.D., and I'm at USC now in the School of Policy, Planning, and Development. Friends ask me if I miss the theatre, and I ask them if they've ever had to keep a classful of undergraduates awake at 8 a.m. to study ethics...Believe me it's theatre! I keep the staircase photo from LATC on the wall of my office to help me remember what intense shared endeavor can accomplish. My current volunteer arts involvements are Shakespeare Festival/LA, Inner City Arts, and The Eagle Rock Cultural Center. Love to you all! CB

Holy shit. Well, this is another way to make me feel really old. I started at LAAT as an intern back in 1984(?) -- my first job. Worked with Steven Leibman and became the "publications coordinator" till my mom got sick in 1987. Maybe we could get Constance Harvey to come out from NYC for this?
See you October 1. Gweneth

We're another successful LATC marriage. 14 years and 2 kids we're very proud of. By the way, we're leaving ours at home in Albuquerque. No one else is bringing theirs, are they? Glad to see all these comments just keep coming and coming. Ahem.

This is such a great idea. I'm not sure if I can attend but I will start working on it. I'm currently in New York City working on Broadway. Sounds exciting but I'm still doing the same eight show week as I did there. I love it though. I'm sure there are some faces that I've forgotten.

Wow. 20 Years. Now that's a long time. Not sure if you folks will remember a guy on the audience side of things (Ticket Sales Director 85-87) I still tell LATC stories......I've gotten some great mileage out of them! It will be fun to see the characters come back to life.

The Women's Playwriting Lab (I especially remember exercises and discussions lead by Susan Mason)deepened my sense of theatre's work in the communty. A challenging and useful time.
Posted by: Susan Suntree at August 4, 2005 09:25 AM
I can't decide if I should tell the story of the piano falling on me, the bum who had cut off his finger, the gang violence during "Elizabeth almost by chance a woman", the night I turned Bill Pullmans hair green, Tyne Daly being very late for a performance or the night Bud Cort got an unexpected and unwanted haircut.
I am sure there are more.

From the first show "Nanawatai" in Theatre 3 as the "running" stage manager (an interesting idea that didn't last) to calling the last cue of the last show, "The Night of the Iguana" in Theatre 1 - I loved my job! I remember walking through that labyrinthian corridor to turn in my stage managers report every night, and thinking to myself, "I'm so grateful for LATC". Looking forward to October 1st!

TODD...write those dang stories down and send them into: stories@celebrate-latc.org
WE NEED THOSE STORIES!! Come on you all know you have stories to tell...send them in!
Posted by: Tantris at August 3, 2005 10:30 AM
OK I'll be there but only if Jon Gottlieb promises to wear enough bells to cover...well...everything. I have no memories of anything...blocked it all out...well except for Bill Swadley's cookies...and the rat falling into the stairwell while Diane and Bush were being interviewed by Channel 5 News...and chasing hookers out of the parking lot while wiring the house lights in Theatre 1...and a Barbara Ling story that needs to be told in person...and, hey, this could be fun.
Posted by: Todd Jared at August 2, 2005 02:54 PM
hey Everyone:
I worked on "Roosters" backstage, in the dark. I am coming so people can see me in the light.

Just had a lovely dinner in LA with Jon Lovick, Liz Pruyn and Kim Grover - all alum circa 1990. Hard to leave the bay area, but really looking forward to attending the reunion, sharing war stories and reconnecting with everyone.

Page Leong and I should be there. Have worked in that building a few times with Cornerstone and others since fateful '91 and look forward to the living and, sadly, passed-on spirits of the old place returning to celebrate the creativity that space once inspired. I don't think by any means has LA art/theater benefitted from the loss of the old LATC. Look forward to seeing all.
Take care,

One of the LATC marriages and still going strong 15 years and 4 kids later.
We were planning on making our first no kid getaway in November for our anniversary/ML's birthday, but maybe we can make it sooner. Have to look into the budget to see if air fare is in the cards.

If I'm in town, I'm there! How is it that in every show I've done since then there's always an appropriate opportunity to tell an LATC story... and what crazy stories they are!!! Can't wait to see the whole LATC family again.

It's on my calendar. Can't wait to see everyone in a more festive occassion. Plus my office is currently up on the 3rd floor of LATC (in the old casting office). If the organizers need an office space...come on up.

Images of many celebrative events, especially openings---in that special building, in that unique lobby--- have been floating about my aging brain, since this reunion was announced. Hope everyone who can be there, will be.

Every time I run into a LATC alum -- most recently, Cat Dragon, in Phoenix -- I feel like a veteran coming across a comrade in arms. It was crazy, it was thrilling, it was occasionally awful but I wouldn't trade those years, and education that I received, for anything. Most likely can't make the reunion -- I'm in Chicago now, with wife and kids -- but would love to be there and see you all.
